Revisit the "luxury" of the "gold rush days" at this San Francisco "landmark" that "oozes" "history" in a "phenomenal" "heart-of-Union-Square" location; though the "rooms vary in size and grandeur" (the newer tower has "more modern touches" vs. the older section's "small", "quaint" lodgings), the main "charm" resides in the "elegant" building's "amazing public spaces" and its "over-the-top" dining courtesy of the "über-luxe Michael Mina" restaurant.

The location of the hotel was great. The history of it also made it interesting. The main areas were very grand and beautiful.
Parking

I thought this hotel was wonderful. Staff was very nice. I have stayed in 4 stars that offer more perks, like robes and slippers and other little extras...I tend to like those extra touches and have started to expect them from upscale hotels, this hotel did not. I would say it was very nice and would stay there again. ...read more

We loved the room. Nice city view. Very spacious, nice sitting area. Great beds. Lovely bathroom & shower. Staff very friendly.

We loved this hotel. It's beautiful. Everyone was friendly from the folks in the parking garage, the person who checked us in and the bell hop. The room was great. Very spacious with a nice sitting area and lovely beds. Good view to the city. The bathroom was nicely laid out and the shower head is a West in design, as are the beds, and are great. We had drinks and snacks in the bar and they were wonderful. Great service too. We would definitely go back.

The location is great.
They charged $12 to use the gym!

The hotel is in a great location, it's got a lot of old fashioned charm. I can't get over the fact that they charge extra to use the gym! I've never been at a hotel that charges for gym use!

Convenient location, very nice restaurant, helpful concierge.
Our friends room bathroom was not clean upon check-in. Issue was corrected quickly although he thought they should have offered a new room.

Overall, very good experience. The staff is courteous and helpful, Michael Mina restaurant is very good. Very historic.

Great location and history behind it.
Expensive parking.

Stayed in the original, older section of the hotel which had rooms on the small, but cozy side with an impressive marble bathroom. The location was great and we walked to many shops and nearby restaurants. We had minimal contact with staff, but they were cordial and friendly. It was our best hotel stay in San Fransisco to date. Great value for the price we paid. ...read more

Comfy bed. Nice toiletries.
Internet was not free. Parking is steep - half of what I paid for the room.

Great view of Union Square. Pretty, old and well maintained.

The linens. Great!

The Westin St. Francis on Powell Street is a landmark now & would stay when in the city. The house keeping is first rate, linens terrific and the room service coffee with ½ & ½ was wonderful and we indulged ourselves with our savings that we realized with priceline.com ...read more

Great name and location.
Poorly trained staff that is very rude.

Great hotel. Great location. But it is more like a 2.5 or 3 star hotel as the staff is very rude, unfriendly and think that they are doing the hotel guests a favor by responding to guest request. They have jobs because the hotel has guests not the other way around. ...read more
